Luckily, the programs easy enough to figure out with Opera Mail is described as 'powerfully organizes, indexes, and sorts your messages' and is a popular Email Client in the office & productivity category. When you compose a new message, it opens in a new tab, a handy clutter-cutting touch. The default three-column viewmailboxes, message list, and individual messageleaves most mail squeezed into a narrow frame, but a bit of searching reveals a settings menu where you can switch to a different layout that makes messages larger and more prominent. You can swiftly and accurately search message text within these categories, though Opera Mail cant search by the actual names of attached files. I found the mailing lists feature unhelpful (but easily hidden), but I really liked its categories for photos, videos, and other attachments. I was also glad that Opera Mail didnt make me struggle to see all my messages with separate categories for Unread and Received mail, I could easily browse the entirety of my inbox and archives. The program downloaded a ton of Gmail messages quickly, and displayed numbers and a progress bar on how the initial setup was goinga much better alternative to many other clients, which keep you in the dark as they populate your mailbox. Its coherent but bland interface wont win any prizes, but it works well. It also builds in support for RSS feeds and Usenet newsgroups, a nice feature in an age when most other clients no longer incorporate those services. I was able to add a Gmail account via IMAP with very little trouble.Īnd while it doesnt work with Microsoft Exchange, Opera Mail is one of the rare modern clients to still support POP mail. Greetings from 10 years ago Opera Mail reminds me of Mozillas open-source Thunderbirdwith a similar rickety, aging substructure that particularly shows in its initial setup. Though Opera Mail made a bad first impression in my testing, it eventually won me over with its intelligent features and dogged competence. Then, select the correct columns for x, y and z and fill in the correct values for Whole Extent. It also makes it a bit easier to interpret, as we get a complete, continuous geometry. Making a structured grid is not very different from single points, but because of ParaView's automatical interpolation, it is most often desired. If nothing shows up in the graphics window, click on it and then click on the eye next to points created under Pipeline Browser. Also, make sure the coloring of the points is set to differ from the background color. Then, select the correct columns for x, y and z and click Apply. To do so, go to Filters → Alphabetical → Table To Points. The easiest way to visualize your data is through single points. semi-colons, simply change the Field Delimiter Character under Properites (lower left in image below). If your file is not separated by commas, but by e.g. that the x-values are actually listed in the column named x256, z-coordinates in the column named z1 etc. To make it a bit more interesting, we will use example_2.csv which is attached in the section above. Then, click Apply, and a table should pop up. To import a file into ParaView, click Open or CTRL + O and located your file. Lastly, if we have some results we wish to add, simply insert them as an additional column. This is helpful knowledge when we later are to convert the points to a structured grid. Bailey's great tutorial on ParaView (see ParaView). They simply describe how many points there are in the current direction, thus for our box geometry of 3 x 3 x 1 nodes we get as shown above. The numbers behind the x, y and z is something I picked up from Prof. ![]() So, when we later get into ParaView, we will not have to remember which column represented what, but rather just look at the descriptor. The top row in the example "x3 圓 z1" is in ParaView only used to describe the column, thus the values below. This is to not get any errors when importing into ParaView. As already mentioned, note that the x-values are the ones changing the fastest. Effectively, z = 0 is defined for all points. Although our chosen domain is in 2D, the function in ParaView that converts our table to a structured grid requires three coordinates. ![]() ![]() Here we get some serial numbers of Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 beta 3 Form. I said: ‘It’s all very well wanting to be a passive investor and all that rubbish, but we’re in the completion meeting here today. “I said: ‘Mr Maxwell, I don’t think you’ve got any money’. “I remember having a phone call with him,” says Lord Sugar, 29 years on. But Maxwell had sent a team of his employees to the office to interfere and called Sugar to put him off. On Friday, June 21, 1991, Sugar arrived at the office of merchant bank Ansbacher to complete the deal for Scholar and Bobroff’s shares. ![]() So who would want to buy an asset like this? There was plenty of early talk about Maxwell, but Sugar, a 44-year-old Tottenham fan who had made his money in property and consumer electronics, wanted to head off the controversial media magnate, who was trying at the same time to sell Derby County. This was 1991, before the foundation of the Premier League, and long before the days when being a big club meant you made money. ![]() And Scholar and Paul Bobroff were looking for a buyer. The club considered a sale and leaseback deal for White Hart Lane. Two years later, they had to do a deal to sell Gascoigne to Lazio for £8.5 million, a huge fee for the time, but one Spurs never got in full because of his knee injury. They had to sell Chris Waddle to Marseille in 1989 for £4.5 million. The finances needed some attention after expensive stadium renovations. Venables’ team was thrilling, but it disguised a financial crisis that put the survival of the club at risk. To understand why Sugar’s reign was so valuable to Tottenham, you have to go back to the state of the club in 1990-91. Or as Sugar put it when asking Littner to go in and troubleshoot: “It’s like World War III there. A story of constant conflict and agitation, of giving Graham “absolute hell”, of telling Teddy Sheringham to “sod off” to Manchester United and being accused of “fucking bullshit” by Darren Anderton. What we discovered was a period that continues to divide and surprise. A period of stabilisation or stagnation? Was the club rescued from oblivion? So, 20 years on, how do Sugar and those involved with the club at the time reflect on his time in charge. And none of the progress under Levy - the stadium, the training ground, the Mauricio Pochettino era - would have been possible without Sugar guiding the club through the transition of the 1990s. ![]() The club that he sold to ENIC was in a far healthier, stronger state than the one he bought from Scholar in 1991. But Sugar’s legacy deserves a second thought. Sugar was never popular with the Tottenham fans, who took Venables’ side against him, who demanded he spend more money, and who never forgave the appointment of Arsenal legend George Graham. The 1990s at Tottenham will always be about Alan Sugar, the man who rescued the club from the brink of bankruptcy, stabilised the finances, fought and won a civil war with Venables, nearly brought in a thrilling new era of foreign superstars, lurched between unpopular managerial appointments and then eventually sold up, exhausted, to a 38-year-old Levy in 2000. But it was not Scholar, Venables, Maxwell, Gascoigne or Lineker who defined Tottenham in the 1990s. Managed by Terry Venables, formerly of Barcelona, starring England’s finest, Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne, owned by stylish property developer Irving Scholar, they had a glamour that their better-run rivals could not match.Īnd in the summer of 1991, after Spurs had won the FA Cup, Daily Mirror owner Robert Maxwell tried to buy the club from Scholar. And having taken over in 1991, it was a decade of staggering turbulence for Tottenham.Īt the start of the 1990s, Tottenham were certainly not the best team in the country, but they were the most exciting. But before all of that, Lord Sugar was the Tottenham Hotspur chairman - with this month marking 20 years since he sold the club to Daniel Levy’s ENIC. ![]() ![]() ![]() For example, you can easily keep updated variants of the identical data on your home as well as an office computer. Nextcloud Sync v2 will be made available as part of a desktop client release later this year, alongside the release of Nextcloud 23.You can even choose to save the two identical files on separate disks, online storage or even on two different USB drives. Users will benefit from instant availability of their files, even if they need to have large numbers of small files made available locally. For the server, idle load will have decreased by 10x thanks to the HPB, while during syncing the number of connections is also reduced by about a factor 10! Internal testing shows that in most situations, the sync speed will now simply be limited by the bandwidth of the network connection of the user. This is augmented by dozens other improvements made to the syncing process over the last year. With Instant Sync thanks to the High Performance Back-end for Files introduced earlier this year, and the File Packing coming to V2 of the Sync Engine, both user experience and server load will dramatically improve. If many clients sync simultaneously, this can cause some serious load and by eliminating a large number of connections, the new sync engine has the potential to dramatically decrease the load on servers. The sync client uploads multiple files in parallel to get the most speed out of the network. This means faster upload of small files – hundreds, even thousands of times faster depending on the file size and network limitations, as internal testing on a tech preview shows! Of course, in a more typical scenario of mixed file sizes, the benefits are more modest, but it is not unlikely that most full sync runs will be between 2x to 10x faster. Version 2.0 of Nextcloud Sync will do away with this: the File Packing feature will upload multiple small files in a single request! 10x faster upload Thus, 1000 1kb files will take 1000 connections, giving a lot of overhead compared to a single 1mb file. Small files are currently a bit of a bottleneck for the sync client, as each file is uploaded individually. All this has added up to such a big change we’ve decided to up the version number of our sync engine. One more big change is coming: a massive improvement to the syncing speed of small files, impacting the overall syncing speed significantly and further reducing server load. There have also been numerous improvements to End-to-end Encryption and the Virtual Files, all hooking deep in the sync engine of the client. The introduction of Instant Sync with Nextcloud Hub 21 brought file changes instantly to the desktop while decreasing server load from the clients by nearly 90%. One thing’s for certain: Liverpool faced challenges, and whatever your views of its response, at least it rose to them, and this book captures Liverpool accurately in its moment of transition. Speke on the outskirts would host the grand experiments of new housing schemes. Tuebrook survived more or less intact, while West Derby was the setting for new council flats (e.g. The town centre would burst with new shops and department stores, while the slums came tumbling down. What’s obvious from this book are the different characters of the areas shown. The theme running through the book are the slice-of-life issues like holidays, school, horse and cart veg sellers, Aunt Sally (good for blowing bubbles, apparently!), sugar soap and the paraffin-and-wax smell of Duffy’s store on Rose Vale. The chapters take no fixed pattern: some are area-based (Bootle, Tuebrook, Toxteth) while others cover events or topics (Coronation Year, 1953, Liverpool City Police). To be fair, he’s selling himself short, as this book should appeal to a wider audience than those who remember it as part of their childhoods. The Introduction sets the scene, and while it’s easy to see these books as nostalgia fests at least the author admits to such up front. The photographs – the main attraction in this ‘Britain in Old Photographs’ volume – capture Liverpool in its pre-Modernist, pre-towerblock, pre-St John’s Precinct era, and depicts street scenes of shiny black cars, children at the seaside, and lines of small, independent shops the like of which we see less often all the time. Rationing was still in force, areas of the town centre remained pock-marked with bomb sites, and life was only just getting back to normal. Edwards new book, Liverpool in the 1950s, published by The History Press, focusses on the decade when the effects of the War were still keenly felt. ![]() Not only housing, but offices and shops popped up like green shoots from the rubble of the shattered city in the 1950s and 1960s. A housing crisis was the result, the response to which was a building bonanza. Housing stock was poor in many neglected city centres and a ‘baby boom’ added to the burgeoning population. For the price, I would not get this wine alternative again. This article attributes the lack of texture and flavor in non-alcoholic red wines (not just this particular brand) to the dealcoholization process. If you’re a big bold cabernet lover, the tannin structure wine will surely miss the mark. The palate was quite tart and the flavor fell flat for me. On the nose, I smelled jammy fruit flavors and notes of chocolate. The first thing I noticed is the color is super inky purple, almost artificial-looking. The FAQ page leads me to believe the wine is made through the filtration process described above. The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Sonoma, California. The brand works with winemakers in California to produce their alcohol-removed wines. Surely is the non-alcoholic brand that I have seen advertised most. Since the brand was founded on the principle of transparency, I would have loved to see a more detailed tech sheet about how the wine is produced. The 100% Sparkling Chardonnay was sourced from Southern Spain and is certified organic, vegan, and halal. Noughty was started in the UK with the goal of greater transparency in wine production and labeling. Here are the non-alcoholic wines I picked up: Looking for non-alcoholic wines? I stopped at Soft Spirits in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. (Note: These terms can vary depending on specific wine laws in different countries.) So are non-alcoholic wines the same as alcohol-free or dealcoholized? The short answer is yes and the terms are often used interchangeably to refer to a beverage with little to no alcohol - 0.0% ABV. The water is then blended back to recreate the wine.īoth processes require a winery to have specialized equipment that can be rented or bought but add an additional cost. The second way a wine can be dealcoholized is through reverse osmosis, a form of cross-flow filtration that removes alcohol and water, which can be distilled to remove the alcohol. The result is a true-to-taste “wine” with less than 0.5 percent ABV. The most popular way to remove alcohol is through vacuum distillation, a process that very carefully heats the wine and allows the main alcohol in wine, ethanol, to evaporate. There are two options for this step, both are quite technical: distillation or filtration. Here comes the fun part, (or not-so-fun part depending on who you’re talking to): removing the alcohol. Once the fermentation is complete, winemakers can make post-fermentation decisions like aging in oak. Varietal grapes are picked and go through the fermentation process to create alcohol and the lovely aroma, flavors, and texture that we love in wine. True non-alcoholic wine actually starts off just as a regular wine would. ![]() (I did add a non-alcoholic beverage to the lineup!) No shade to those options, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. Several products on the market are bottled similarly to wine and advertised as non-alcoholic but are juices, sparkling teas, etc. Before we get into the three wines that I purchased, let’s take a look at how non-alcoholic wines are made. ![]() |
